CBA IS A PROTON-PROTON COLLIDING BEAM ACCELERATOR WHICH IS BEING BUILT TO STUDY THE BASIC STRUCTURE OF ENERGY AND MATTER. THE FACILITY ITSELF IS AN UNDERGROUND CIRCULAR TUNNEL, WHICH IS 3.8 KILOMETERS IN CIRCUMFERENCE. TWO RINGS OF SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS WILL BE INSIDE THE TUNNEL. PRO- TON BEAMS WILL BE INJECTED INTO THE TUNNEL AND ACCELERATED TO ENERGIES UP TO 400 GEV. AT SIX PLACES ALONG THE TUNNEL, THE BEAMS WILL COLLIDE. EXPERIMENTAL HALLS, WHICH ENCLOSE THESE 6 INTERSECTIONS, WILL HOUSE EQUIPMENT FOR STUDYING THE RESULTS OF THE COLLISIONS.
