This is my later mother ;) Miss J., Portrait of Miss Elizabeth June Thornton (England, 1945) Painted in 1945 when the she was 12 years old, Miss J. or June, as she was known in her family (1933-2009), later changed her name to June Mitchell and became a strikingly beautiful young starlet in a number of 1950s British films, including Reluctant Heroes (1951), Never Look Back (1952), It Started in Paradise (1952), Wings of Danger (1952) and D-Day the Sixth of June (1956). She married the photographer James Shipp in 1954.

My aunt, her elder sister, Christine Norden (née Mary Lydia Thornton), became a well known and infamous actress and movie sex symbol of the era, and in 1967 became the first actress to appear topless on the Broadway stage, in the comedy, Scuba Duba.
