This is a photograph in a book from an exhibition by Georg Oddner, a famous Swedish photographer who chronicled the stars of stage, screen and music scene in Sweden, most notably Southern Sweden in the 50's and 60's. It is also one of my favourite photographs at the moment. It represents many of my favourites...Georg Oddner (great photographer), Max von Sydow and Gunnel Lindblom (two of my favourite actors) starring in one of my favourite stories (Faust), on stage (one of my favourite art forms), directed by Ingmar Bergman (probably my favourite director) in Scandinavia (my favourite place)...this photograph, and indeed the exhibition, is truly wonderful. The photograph itself is also, in my opinion, extremely beautiful and touching. I discovered the exhibition completely by chance and just had to buy the book (seen here). When I took this photograph I was sitting on the airport train heading out to Stockholm's Arlanda airport to journey back to Oslo. It was the closing of one chapter of my life and the start of a new one. I can't even begin to find words to do this exhibition and photograph justice. Instead, go see the exhibition ("Nordstjärnor") at the National Gallery if you are lucky enough to find yourself in Stockholm anytime soon. I don't know if I would sell my soul to be able to take such a photo as this, but were I to manage it would certainly be cashed-in with a smile : )
