On Sept. 26-29, 2016, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory hosted about 40 students for the Fall 2016 on-site experience of NASA's National Community College Aerospace Scholars Program. Over four days, student teams competed to win a fictional mission contract for a future Mars rover by designing and building rovers using a LEGO Mindstorm kit, testing them on a simulated Mars surface and finally selling their mission concept to a panel of NASA experts. The students also toured JPL, listened to talks from NASA scientists and engineers and attended professional development workshops.
