This one really shows the auburn in her hair as well as the hat. I'd like to try and make my mini Cécile a hat when she arrives. Could you measure the depth of the brim for me? All your great close-ups will be really helpful.

Sure. The finished brim is 1 5/8" deep. The crown is a single piece of felt molded into half a sphere. The brim is a rectangle of felt, short ends seamed to make a circle, folded in half wrong sides together and stitched around the edge of the crown. The brim and crown were sewn wrong sides together so that when the brim is turned up the seam allowance is sandwiched between crown and brim. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks! That's pretty much how I thought it would be put together. I tried one for my mini doll, but I got it a little small. I did come pretty close to right height for the brim though.

I have another piece of felt for the crown drying right now on a lotion bottle that has the right size and shape top. I discovered as I was playing with the first one that the way the big one is put together is a bit bulky for a mini doll. I have another idea to make it with fewer layers. The felt I have is more a royal blue. I hope I can find the right color turquoise somewhere. The black trim looks like gathered velvet ribbon. Is that right?

Yep, gathered down the middle. I can't wait to see your mini hats!
