Marzanna, goddess of winter and death
here's a new doll i'm working on. i've got her under-garments mostly finished, but i'm still working on her dress and jacket. she's named for the Slavic goddess Marzanna, or Morena who is the goddess of winter and death. it's said that she sneaks into houses and tortures the people (mostly children) in their sleep, or kisses the young girls causing them to go mad. in the spring her power wanes and she becomes a lovely white-haired maiden who travels around seducing men and then abandoning so they feel her grief and pain forever in their hearts. in some Slavic nations there is a custom of burning Morena at the stake or drowning her or both to weaken her and bring on spring, but that's not what i plan on doing with my doll ;)
