Tim and Jess
Jess was already a nervous, anti social dog before the accident in which she lost her leg. She hasn't become any more comfortable in the company of other dogs or people in the years since.
When Tim came to live with us it was always going to be a challenge to integrate the young staffie pup into her home without causing her distress or putting him at risk.
Slowly but surely we are seeing progress. Tim loves everyone canine and human alike but the one dog in the whole wide world he wants to be friends with above all others is Jess. Sometimes , when he isn't trying to get her to play and just calms down, they are very happy to wander around outside together. He isn't allowed to bother her when she's on her special bed, and she is allowed to growl at him. It's very important not to tell your dog off for growling. This is a vital warning sign that she isn't happy and if she wasn't allowed to do it she might well go straight on the attack with no preamble.
I love this shot, even though it is technically flawed, because it catches those moments on a walk when the two are relaxed and happy together. Moments which we are seeing with increasing frequency.
