Sydney suburban & city underground railway map diagram - 1939

The actual diagram is even closer to the 1933 Beck design of the London tube diagram - helped by the presence of many London names such as Lewisham and Stanmore (as well as some very non-London names as well). Two names stand out - Epping - this would have to wait a decade to appear on the London diagram - & Ashfield. No station of that name in London but it was the name of the then chairman of LT.

At this date the Sydney suburban lines were under going a vast programme of electrication as noted on this map.

I saw this map on display in the London Transport Museum, it was tiny. Glad for a closer look.

wleif Matthew Keenan Nostalgia at its best - note the inclusion of the Camden line (precursor to the South West RailLink?) and at the very top continuation of the Richmond Line to North Richmond and Kurrajong. Both lines closed by unthinking bureaucrats!
