Epping Ongar Railway 'Tube train" event - September 2015

    Newer Older

To mark the end of Central line Underground services on the branch to Ongar from Epping twenty years ago this weekend (the branch now being run by the EOR as a heritage railway) the EOR, the Cravens Train Preservation Group and London Underground have pulled out all the stops to run the 3-car Cravens unit back on the branch. Powered by up to four LU Schoma diesel locos (there now being no electrified rails on the branch), the unit has been recreating scenes most people thought had gone for ever.

This is the view back towards Coopersale of the roof of the 1960s Cravens driving motor cars that had refurbished 1938-tube stock trailer cars fitted between to make up the 3 car sets.

Very curious viewpoint - it took me some time to work out how it was part of a tube train!
