Nut-Free Sunflower Seed Coconut Macarons

Made for my friend Shulie and her son who has tree nut allergies. Dessicated coconut doesn't grind up as fine as nuts so these have a bit of texture. Almost like a love child between French macarons and American macaroons ^_^. Story and recipe on my blog.

No idea why I chose this color background and should stop taking photos after 4 pm...couldn't get the color balance to look quite right. Any ideas what color background might've been better?

"Almost like a love child between French macarons and American macaroons"...LOL. They look more organic and human than their velvety, heavenly predecessors. Because of their character, I would like to see them in a less orderly surroundings with something soft included in the composition. I don't know what it could be, maybe a cloth with more pronounced texture? The flaky, restless light brings softness, but it is not enough.

The box is good, but I'm not sure about the plate. All the elements are placed with same distance from one another. There could be variety too.

The shape of your teacup is interesting.

Thanks, Laksmi. I think you've hit the nail on the head. I kept feeling these macarons turned out a bit uglier than the usual and tried to think of ways to "pretty" it up. I think I went overboard trying using such a girly and smooth pink fabric. I should have embraced the rustic nature instead of trying to conceal it and thus creating a weird mix. As always, I appreciate the feedback a lot!

"a love child between French macarons and American macaroons" - love that! As for what background to use, I might have gone with some earthier colors, something to accentuate the rough texture of the macarons perhaps. Maybe go the complete opposite direction and not try to make them pretty and frilly like most macarons but rough and with character.
