Early Photos Collage

Collage of my early photos for an upcoming post about my experience learning about food photography 8). I like looking back to see where and how I've grown. I've heard many bloggers complaining about how much they hate their early photos and that one day they plan to replace them. I hope they won't do that because I know it encouraged me as a complete beginner to look into the archives of fabulous and famous bloggers and see that they too had to work hard and learn all the same things that beginners now face. I'd rather have a few ugly photos on my site than pretend to have been something I wasn't =).

HUGE food photography and styling tips post on my blog.

Love this sentiment of yours, which I completely agree with. I think we all have been there :). I didn't delete or complain about any of my earlier or not-so-good pics. Its part of the learning process which I enjoy tremendously. (And to be honest, a lot of my latest photos aren't what I want as well. It's a hit and miss sometimes. But it's part of the fun ^^)

Food photos should make you want to eat the food and these certainly do that! Especially the veggie eggs with toast and that eggplant parm!! YUM YUM YUM!! :)

Thanks, you guys! Glad I'm not alone in feeling this way :). I really liked that eggplant parm recipe www.6bittersweets.com/2009/08/amazing-baked-eggplant-parm... in fact I'm thinking I should make it again soon!

This is a good idea, Xiaolu ! You show us the early path of your journey, that you were in the same condition like every beginners where they all hate their early photos (me too !) But no matter what, those are our works. We learn from our mistakes, critics and history. This is your history that have made you bigger, stronger and more capable in this field.

Were those photos taken with pocket cam or DSLR cam ?
  • Xiaolu // 6 Bittersweets 4y

Thanks, Tika. Left column was taken with point and shoot and right column is DSLR (same camera i still use).

A wonderful thought..So agree with you Xialou.Maybe 2 years down the line ..it would be so satisfying to see my growth as a photographer [ if at all] and learning curve right infront of me..when I will be able to discreetly.point out my own mistakes.I m so looking forward to this post from you. I really wish to compare my P&S and DSLR pictures at some point in time.

I totally agree Xiaolu, I feel the same. But I have to say you're really talented (and sweet :-)
  • Xiaolu // 6 Bittersweets 4y

Thanks, you guys! You're both very talented as lovely as well. Tanvi, you're already learning and growing, so I hope you can see that :). FYI, I'm not really going to do any in-depth comparison of my growth but simply wanted to highlight some points at the beginning about how we all have to start somewhere in learning photography.
