Great shot, Xiaolu. Love the lighting and the tone here. I do like the combination between brown and white.
Maybe you could move the cupcake on the left side a bit to the right. But this is look nice to me.

yes you're right Xialou, its better on black version, the light that came from backside was fine for me, I only would like to keep the cupcake not too bright :)

      Thanks, all :).

Tika, I see your point about the cupcake to the left. I actually cropped this photo a little, so my original styling did have more of that cupcake in frame, but I think cropping improved the photo overall.

Asri, the cupcakes don't look too bright on my monitor but I know each monitor's setting is different. I did try to darken the levels a little bit, so hopefully it looks better to you.

Thank you, Xialou. It did not mean that you have to do something in your picture :). I can see it on cutting board, it is getting darker now. Your image give me an idea to shot the same, I would like to try it someday. it is such a challange :)
      Have a great day !

I really like it, Xiaolu. Love the lighting, I don't find it too bright at all. I like the addition of the board, it definitely adds interest. It would have looked plain without it. 's comment made me LOL.. now that he mentioned it, it does look like a passed out drunk!

Made me laugh :-D I love that description, and I love that element in the picture, it's unexpected and catches your eye. I also like how you've stacked them up high, it adds vertical interest to the image. I'm liking the concept of self-frosted cupcakes, and peanut butter and chocolate are always a good combination.

Good luck! It is a bit tricky to get the light right, which is why I haven't attempted it until now. But it was actually not as hard as I'd expected.
Thanks for the detailed commentary as usual! Yea his comment was great :).
I'm glad the drunk didn't totally crash the party ;p. Glad the height is working for you. I tried a few shots with a smaller stack and it just seemed boring.
Sure but you'll have to fight my boyfriend for it. He's declared he's going to eat them all!

Xiaolu, would you like to elaborate what it means to "get the light right"? I always wonder what is refered to when people say an image has "a perfect light" ect. Sorry, I'm asking these weird questions, but I would like to understand what is considered to be good light and what not so good.

Another, unrelated question, but equally as important: how do you pronounce your name :-). I have streched it in all possible directions, but I doubt none of them are correct. In case we meet one day face to face, I would like to utter it the way you would recognize it :-).

    10. Xiaolu // 6 Bittersweets 52 months ago | reply

Laksmi, I feel the "right" or "perfect" light is a very subjective thing. I'll send you a message elaborating on that 8).

Thanks for asking about my name. How wonderful it'd be if we could all meet one day! My name begins like "shower" minus the "er" and ends "loo" as in the bathroom hehe. Hope that helps!

    11. Laksmi W 52 months ago | reply

LOL! That is an excellent but unusual pronunciation instruction! Unforgettable for sure :-). I think I got it right now. Unfortunately you implanted very bathroomly images in my head with it :-). I have to take a shower to get rid of them!

Hahah...maybe I should come up with tips that have a more pleasant association! FYI, just sent you the message ^_^.

aaah, I guessed it right then! I have a friend, her name's Xiao Hong and it was her husband who told us the easiest way to remember was "shower" minus the "er"! .. she writes her name as XH!

    14. asri. 52 months ago | reply

hihihi...thanks for your help on pronouncing you name " showloo " I got it :)

I agree, how fun it would be for all of us to meet one day, too bad we all live in such different parts of the world. It's so to nice chat with everyone here. I am very glad to have met all of you.

I tried saying your name and it sounds cute! I was pronouncing it as 'ziyoloo' all these days! I thought what Vera has already expressed. This is so different from your other shots and I love it! Nice light, pretty stacks and a very tasty looking cupcake!

Thanks for letting me know. It's kind of a relief that someone else uses the same quirky tip :).
Yay! I never realized so many people were wondering about this or I would have told you all sooner.
Well stranger things have happened. I bet we can manage it one day. Until then, we'll have Flickr and the rest of the net :).
Aw thanks! Yea most people pronounce it with a "z" if I don't explain. It makes sense since words like "xylophone" that start with an "x" are pronounced as "z."

As for the photo, while I think it's great to have a distinct style, I love experimenting and learning. So I'm glad to have deviated from the norm in your eyes :).

Think this is great picture. So different from the usual cupcake pictures. :)
The styling and composition is nice, especially the tower. Think the board adds to the photograph.
