Moss and Burgundy Embroidered Tapestry Necklace with Vintage Rhinestones
Beautiful and subtle shades of plum, burgundy, olive and moss combine in this mixed media necklace with a wonderful retro quality.
I started with moss green linen which I backed with stiff fabric interfacing. Using both bead embroidery techniques and tapestry embroidery techniques I created a tiny scene of a fantasy garden. The flowers have vintage prongset rhinestones as the centers, surrounded by petals made of beads in a couched stitch and embroidered french knots. The leaves and stems are made of split stitch using cotton embroidery floss.
I backed the pendant with soft pale green ultra suede and framed it in brick stitch with a decorative picot edging. Brass wire loops were anchored in the fabric layers to provide a sturdy base for the brass chain side pieces.
At the bottom of the pendant I added a gradated fringe using various seed beads in both matte and shiny finishes and tiny round red garnet beads at the very bottom. The seed beads range in size from size 11 to size 15. Wherever beadwork has been applied, multiple passes of nymo thread were used to create a sturdy product.
I finished the necklace with wire wrapped loops in vintaj brass with shiny olive czech glass beads and two 8.25 inch lengths of vintaj brass chain. The closure is a vintaj brass lobster claw.
