Beaded Cuff Moon Over Stormy Waters3
This beaded cuff was created for the February, 2010 Etsy Beadweavers Challenge. The theme of the challenge is to draw inspiration from the ocean, and in my entry, the imagery I used is of a full moon over stormy ocean waves at night. The moon, or focal piece, on the cuff is made of a vintage shell button, which has been held in place with a peyote stitch bezel made of size 11 and size 15 beads. The moon is surrounded by a picot stitch edging made of freshwater pearls in golden greens and blues. The wave pattern is done with bead couching in shades of metallic gold, matte olive green, and shiny translucent blue.
The fabric background is made of 100 percent recycled clean denim. The edges are painted with metallic gold acrylic to keep the fabric from fraying and then the entire edge was painstakingly trimmed with size 11 gold beads in brick stitch. The side closing clasp is silver plated, and the back of the piece is finished with soft suede leather. A layer of stiff fabric interfacing is in between the denim and leather.
All the thread used throughout is nymo, and most of the beadwork has been reinforced with a second pass of the thread.
This bracelet cuff will fit a wrist of 7.25 inches (184 mm) or smaller. Due to the clasp, it cannot be adjusted to fit a bigger wrist nor can it be tightened to fit a much smaller wrist snugly.
The cuff is 1.25 inches (31.75 mm) wide except at the focal area where the width increases to 1.75 inches (44.5 mm).
