What's this?

A strange atmospheric phenomenon observed 2:44pm 5th December 2010 in the western sky above Warriewood Square in Warriewood, Sydney, Australia. Four parallel lines of misty, colourful, almost iridescent cloud. It glowed much brighter than the surrounding cloud.

I'm guessing it's something to do with ice crystals high in the atmosphere. Does anyone know what this phenomenon is called and what caused it?
