Walter Reed -Class1901

Majors William C. Borden and Walter Reed (second row, second and third from left respectively) were both on the faculty of the Army Medical School shown in this picture with the class and faculty of 1901-1902. This is believed to have been one of the last photographs of Reed, who died Nov. 23, 1902, at 51 of peritonitis from at ruptured appendix at the Army General Hospital at Washington Barracks (now Fort McNair). Borden, dedicated himself to honoring his friend, working for several years to get funding for a new hospital to replace the aging Washington Barracks, and naming the new hospital after Reed.
