HCPX 1773

The Occidental Chemical Company is best known for its fleet of tankcars, but they also owned some covered hoppers for sodium chlorate, one series of 9 cars were HCPX 1772-1781.

The prototype photo was taken by Karl Geffchen in Altoona, PA, October 1988.

I had stripped, painted and weathered an Athearn covered hopper many years ago, but had never got around to weathering it until last week. And, yse, I know the prototype was an earlier version with high brakewheel, etc.
