Katrina is my cousin’s 11 year old daughter and this is her quilt. This quilt was more than 2 years in the making, mainly because I could not decide how to finish off the improv block that I made for the front. It all started when Trina told me she would like a quilt “with pink and green and a touch of cyan”.
With those marching orders I used a bunch of Kona Cotton solids (I shied away from prints so the quilt could grow with her and not be too “little girl”) and finally decided to use Essex linen cotton blend to frame the main block with a lot of negative space.
I pieced the back of the quilt by simply using the extra Kona colors from the front put together on the fly. Then came the quilting, after drawing out a couple of options I went with echo straight line quilting in dark pink and even snuck in some light pink and green around the square on the front with pebble quilting inside the block. It was my first time pebble quilting on a large quilt and I ended up with some puckers but after washing it looked great! I finished the quilt off with a printed binding and a hand-stitched tag.
The quilt is a finished 60.5”x67”.
