My cousin Precious is 10 and she sewed all of the triangles on her quilt. We wanted to make a quilt for her to use on her bed (though it is not twin-sized). I cut out all the rectangles and she chose all the fabrics and sewed on the triangles, in one day! I then assembled the quilt top created the back, which features some of her favorite fabrics, and quilted it using random diagonal lines. The finished and washed measurements are 51.5 x 68.5. She is very happy with her quilt and I even had her sign a piece of fabric for the label which I then embroidered just like one of my own quilts. My goals for this quilt were to make something with Precious, can you believe this is the first time we sewed together? I wanted the design and colors to not be too juvenile as she is 10 and may grow out of that very quickly, so she chose the Kona medium grey and when we ran out of grey the Kona thistle was a good match. I made the design of the quilt to give her lots of choices on fabrics she would want to include, 50 in fact, and to be easy and fast to sew as each rectangle is 14.5 inches tall. Also, this is one of the first quilts that is made purely from my stash, I had no plans one day and a quilt top the next and it felt good to work from what I had at the time and not buy anything new to make it work out, the only purchase for this quilt was grey thread, satisfying.
