Professor Joaquín M. Chávez Delivers the McGill Lecture 4/3/2012
On April 3rd, 2012, Joaquín M. Chávez, Visiting Assistant Professor of International Studies, delivered the Patricia C. and Charles H. McGill III ’63 Lecture in International Studies. The lecture, titled “Revolutionary Pedagogy: Catholic Intellectuals, The Second Vatican Council, and the Origins of the New Left in El Salvador, 1960-1975,” focused on the evolution of religious and political consciousness and notions of historical change among Catholic intellectuals. Chávez, who received his Ph.D. from New York University in 2010, has done extended fieldwork and in-depth interviews and used archival sources in conducting his research. The McGill International Studies Fund was established in 1996 with a gift from Patricia C. and Charles H. McGill III ’63.
