Blue wildebeest in the Auob riverbed, photographed from the deck of our dwelling in Urikaruus. We're back from a brief visit to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Though it was bitterly cold while we were there (night temps of -5˚C were the norm) and disappointing from a photographic point of view, Kgalagadi 's natural beauty and riches are beyond description.
Little did we know that the night of 26 June in Urikaruus was going to be our coldest, the walls of the small hut on stilts offering little protection. The next morning we woke to frozen waterpipes and even the water in the toilet bowl had a layer of ice. Thank you to Eric, the the camp attendent, for his forewarning as a result of which we had filled the kettle with water the night before and could have a warm cup of tea in an attempt to defrost.
