Bedford TK - R&G Wilcox Ltd - NFL618R
This vehicle was purpose built for mobile engineering repairs, mainly to industrial boilers and pressure vessels but it's work did include mobile repairs to aluminium tipper bodies as and when required.
It had a special Turner heavy-duty gearbox fitted that allowed it to drive an air compressor for full shift periods that could be upto 12 hours at a time, when doing this the cab rear flaps were always opened for extra cooling.
The body contained basic crew sleeping accommodation (in the open side door) and a fixed 3 phase 415v generator set, the radiator grille of which can be seen next to the door. Can you imagine trying to sleep in there when the generator and the Bedford engine were running constantly!.
The vehicle carried oxy-acyeteline bottles and MIG, TIG and Manual Arc welding equipment.
As I recall it grossed at 7499KG!.
For some reason this lorry was operated in this Grey and Black colour scheme, not my Father's usual bright Red cab with Black wings and chassis. I did rectify this myself in Feb 1990 when I re-sprayed it, but it only lasted another 2 months before this body was fitted to a TL and the old TK was scrapped!.
