Fire travels quickly up steep slope

The Taylor Bridge Fire started on Monday, August 13 around 1:00 pm. The fire is burning 4 miles SE of Cle Elum and 4 miles NW of Ellensburg. The fire was wind driven and burning in grassland, sage and timber. Approximately 60 primary residences were destroyed. DNR, Kittitas Fire Districts 1,7, Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue and one Forest Service engine started initial attack. Kittitas Sheriff's Office conducted a Level 3 evacuation order for the threatened homes. Two emergency shelters are set up at the Cle Elum Centennial Senior Center and CWU, Munson Dorms. Approximately 28,000 acres has burned, a state mobilization was authorized, fire is under a unified command and Washington Incident Management Team 2 under Rex Reed (IC of DNR) assumed command of the fire at 8:00 am today.


Road Closures: SR97 ar SR10 to Lauderdale Junction, SR10 from Taylor Rd to SR97 Junction.
