On a hot weekend like this one is in the Midwest, my thoughts turned for a few minutes to some of this winter's adventures that were on the opposite end of the temperature spectrum...
After a fresh snow fall the day before, BCOL 4618 has drawn the lead of the day's edition of M337, the westbound Iowa Division freight from Chicago to Waterloo. The perch from the old wood road bridge in the middle of Beth siding, a little east of Wintrhop, Iowa is a neat view. That's the town of Masonville and the Gavillon Grain elevators visible in the background. Last I'd heard, the roller coaster Beth siding is out of service and it's fate is uncertain.
Once reaching this spot I discovered the road into this bridge isn't always plowed in the winter, but with following another set of tire tracks and with only a few inches of snow I managed to make it in and out without getting stuck... worth the risk I think!
