Purple Swamphen in marsh

VIEW LARGE ! No this is not a Purple Gallinule on steroids!! This is an introduced invasive species from Asia that is actively spreading across Florida. The species was introduced to Florida when Miami Metro Zoo was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew. It competes directly with the small native waders in the State. It is a larger bird and has similiar colors to our Purple Gallinule. Thanks for looking, the comments and the favorites!!! Photos cannot be copied without written permission of Photographer. Photo was taken in Storm Water treatment area in Palm Beach County .
