Shangri-La, Pontllanfraith, Gwent

'Shangri-la' is one of the finest, completely original houses I have yet discovered. Situated overlooking the hills above Caerphilly, this 1938 house was built by the Withers family, owners of a chain of local cinemas throughout the 1930's.

The house retains most original features, original Crittall windows which remain in the same red colour. The only alterations are to the garage which has now been altered to an additional reception room, having constructed a double garage to the side of the house.

The interior remains largely intact and is splendid in so many Art Deco details.

On a personal note....the gate alone was worth the journey !
