Human Genome Documentary History
The Human Genome Project (HGP) was a 13-year research endeavor whose goal was “to discover all 20,000 to 25,000 human genes, determine the sequence of the 3 billion DNA subunits contained in the human chromosomes or ‘genome,’ and make this information available for further study (Cold Spring). ”Central to the development of the HGP is the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) in New York which is currently working to enhance dissemination of the HGP history through digital means. Our goal was to help contribute material for an e-version of the CSHL annotated scholarly guide to the HGP by providing a visualization that would help new researchers quickly grasp central concepts about the HGP history.
The visualization was generated from a data set of 5,392 Journal article records from 1977-2003.
