Cass House, Lighthouse Hill

"The Crimson Beech"

Cass House (1958–59)

Architect: Frank Lloyd Wright

48 Manor Ct.

Lighthouse Hill, Staten Island

This house is one of two Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in New York (the other being the Guggenheim Museum). It is an example of Prefab. No. 1, an attempt by Wright to design moderately priced housing for the middle-class. Construction was undertaken by Marshall Erdmann & Associates of Madison, Wisconsin.

The name “Crimson Beech” was taken from an ancient copper beech tree growing on the property (since removed).
