Shooting hoops in a abandoned town

Ben shooting hoops in the abandoned town of Elberton, on the Washington Palouse.

Elberton was incorporated as town on 24 April 1896. It subsequently ceased as a town on December 6th, 1966 through the process of disincorporation. This is the last time a Washington city disincorporated. Elberton once had a population of 500 and at one time had a sawmill and a railroad that passed through and the world's largest prune dryer. The building in the background is an abandoned church.

Today most of the land is a county-owned park and is listed in the Register of Historical Places in Washington.
