Oh my goodness Project 365 Day 308
There is something appealing about stalls that sell fruit and vegetables. The colours, the textures and the aromas always set my taste buds tingling. I also like fresh fish stalls except of course for the aromas.
This stall was outside a shop in Cheetham, Manchester. The fruit and vegetables all looked exceptionally fresh and very appetizing.
Being a multicultural area, there were vegetables on the stall that you wouldn't necessarily find in your average Tesco which made it even more intriguing. As an example, in the inset are some Pakistani carrots which are apparently just in season. They must be sweeter than a regular carrot becuase you find them in recipes for desserts. I did think to ask about this but then my daughter, Laura, would have been mortally embarrassed. In any case she was on a mission to visit the pram shop just down the road to look at the Maxi-Cosi travel system so I had to be content with taking a photograph.
I tried to explain to Laura that Henri Cartier-Bresson was never afraid to point his camera at any subject of his choosing, be it prostitutes in India or nuns in Paris so I should have nothing to worry about taking innocent photographs in Cheetham. It wasn't as if I was using my 5D Mk II which is hard to be discreet with. This was a compact which is even less obvious than Cartier-Bresson's black taped Leicas. Before anyone could register the fact, I'd have my pictures taken and the camera back in its case.
