Green Heron (Butorides virescens)
Small, stocky heron that has the virtue of patience that it displays by waiting, sentinel like, in the one spot waiting for small fish to pass which it pounces upon. Seems to be reasonably common in Florida but, perhaps on account of its solitary and skulking behaviour, not as obvious as some of its congeners. This one was photographed in the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida.
One of these turned up in West Cork a few years back and I was lucky enough to see it then.
