Samuel Fair Sr. and family prior to 1899

Samuel S. Fair, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Stewart) Fair of South Monaghan twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario Canada, was born in 1845. He was a wagon and carriage maker.


In 1868 he married Margaret Ann Moffatt, the daughter of James (1827-1910) and Anna (Rumley) (1831-1916) Moffatt of Port Hope, Ontario Canada. She was born in 1851. She bore Samuel 14 known children including 1 set of twins.


In the mid-1870's the family relocated to Alpena, Michigan where Samuel established the Samuel Fair Manufacturing Co., only to relocate again to Saginaw in 1899.


Samuel died of pneumonia on the same day as his mother-in-law's death in 1916, while Margaret survived him until 1923, dying 3 days after her 72 birthday.
