Baingan Queen AND King of Combs (side1)

March 09. Pen and colour pencil on paper. Dimensions 11 x 7.5 inches

King of Combs and Queen of Baingan (Aubergines) - plays on Indian obsessions with food, pens, briefcases, double breasted pin striped suits and includes the infamous tiffin box. Perhaps an outdated notion in modern times and modern cities, but relevant to all those who remember the 70s, 80s and 90s and/or have lived in places like Kanpur (India).

the presence of the Aubergine makes reference to the "I can make it at home for nothing" (with a small aubergine) skit in the BBC series Goodness Gracious me
