madrona tree

I'm developing a love/hate relationship with this tree. It's beautiful and sinuous and colorful and elegant, but it drops its crispy dead leaves all over the backyard all summer, and it sucks all the moisture out of the soil within a 10 yard radius. But just when I think it's more trouble than it's worth, I look up and its cinnamon colored bark, which is really just a skin, is giving way to the new growth underneath, which is my favorite color in the world, the shade of green that is new life. So the tree and I will work this out somehow.

Oh! This tree is gorgeous! I understand what you mean about putting up with inconveniences with a tree as lovely as this. I'm not familiar with Madrona trees but shall look them up. I LOVE the cinnamon bark peeling away to reveal a green seemingly the same color of the leaves. Lovely. Just lovely.
