Rodrigo's View, Long Island City, New York City

From the roof of a friend, looking down 44th Dr in Long Island City, Queens, toward Midtown Manhattan. On the left in the foreground is the Citi Building, aka the middle finger of Queens. Sometimes, when I've been using my Tokina a lot, I begin to think it is sharp. But my 70-300mm, used here, is by far the sharpest lens I have when I can keep it steady.

And you kept it steady here for sure. You can almost make out the items on the desks in that office building. Excellent view.

    Wonderful perspective! This is amazing!

Seen on my Flickr home page. (?)

Loving the view, Andrew! This is a bad ass photograph. The two buildings on the sides really block this shot well. The blacks could be a touch darker on my monitor, because they look like they almost have a blueish cast to them here. I like all the detail in the dark areas, so maybe that is why you kept the dark areas a little lighter. Regardless, a killer shot to be sure. Nice work, man.

Thanks, Ivan. A slight bluish cast is intentional--a cross-processed look that I at the moment like for night city scenes (kind of sick of that orange glow). I also do like to have the mids up a little bit so that more detail is apparent. But my display isn't calibrated, so who knows how other people see it--the entire scene is pretty dark on my display.

    Amazing shot !!!!

I like the processing for sure. What I really like is the totally unique perspective and your use of the long FL to achieve this shot. Absolutely fantastic - probably one of the best NY landscapes I have seen in quite some time. Definitely a fave - keep quality like this coming!

Wow -- it came out great! I can tell you're good at this, because I don't think the view looks that great from my rooftop... ;)
  • Andrew Mace 5y

Haha, cool--thanks, man. It's just that the huge A/C units on your roof have the best view.
  • Eduardo 5y

    NYC at its best.

Andrew Mace andrew mace— - Ha! That is pretty funny, because I just calibrated my monitor. I dig the blue look in the processing. I know how that orange hue can get into your head!

Your pictures are always fantastic, but I'm also impressed for your talent to find fantastic spots for pictures like this one. Great shot!
