The sand dunes at Stovepipe Wells offer some dramatic photo opportunities. Arriving at first light after an evening of high winds will assure you of a pristine landscape, free of others' footprints. As the day wears on, the light is flat and undramatic and footprints of countless others will make your photography that much more difficult in searching out dunes that haven't been walked upon. A long lens, such as used above, will compress the dunes into very dramatic patterns and colors. Death Valley National Park, California.
