A full house turned out to see the Giants play the Padres, but normally a visit from the Padres wouldn't generate much interest. But this season, and on Opening Day no less, the Padres brought somebody quite special with them: Giants' nemesis Steve Garvey. Though raining curses upon the ex-Dodger, the large crowd, nor starting pitcher Mike Krukow, was able to contain a 16 run offensive explosion that provided a surprisingly narrow Padres victory. They got out of Candlestick that day by the seat of their pants.
