Finally finished it, about 100 hours work in there. Built up from dozens of hi-rez shots and all manually stitched together in Photoshop CS2, no plugins, no filters. This basically involved me traveling around the Northwest with my camera taking shots of various woodland and then composing elements of these environments together to build a new scene from my imagination. The image has a painterly quality because I have drawn inspiration from classical landscape painting. I processed the composition by adding hundreds of layers and masks and basically painted over the whole thing with a Wacom graphics tablet.
This picture will be on display at the Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk from 01/08/10 to 22/09/10. It was selected as part of the West Lancashire Open. I have missed exhibiting my work, it's been a while.
