Downtown Sao Paulo
The 'Old Downtown Sao Paulo' is one of those places where the decay is stamped everywhere and you have to dig deep to notice that, back in the day, was the place of choice of the rich and important people of the town, much like many big cities around the world.
After countless revitalization projects that ended in nothing but public funds being pocketed by the crooked city officials, I trully have no hope to see this place in a better shape than what it currently is. Not in my lifetime, at least.
But despite (or as a consequence of) all this decay, this district in particular, the 'Republica' is still a very interesting place. You can't find many places that can be categorized as a hot point of vinyl records stores, prostitution, head banger and African memorabilia, drugs and even hair salons, including the best barber shop in town, where former presidents and bankers used to go in the 60s and 70s. To be honest, I don't know if I really want this place any different than what it is now...
