Spirits of the forest

Tiny Kauri Greenhood orchids (Pterostylis agathicola) growing from leaf litter between ancient kauri trees (Agathis australis) in one of the few remaining old growth kauri forest relics in the northern districts of New Zealand's North Island. While I liked the detail of the picture I posted before of this orchid, there was something missing- a sense of place. So I went back to the forest with a plan of shooting these orchids showing their natural environment, the forest floor between the mighty kauri trees. I tried to isolate the orchids by underexposing the background and using an LED light. If anyone is concerned that I am walking among kauri trees which are threatened by the soil borne, incurable and fatal kauri dieback disease, I want to make it clear that I did not leave the boardwalk for the photo and used the cleaning stations entering and leaving the forest, common sense behaviour expected from everyone visiting this threatened ecosystem. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kauri_dieback
