Nettles (Urtica)

These looked smaller than the previous photo ... different species?

Maple Tree Nursery, Barnham, West Sussex.

A native perennial in the family Urticaceae, very common throughout the UK in woods, ditches, grassy places, verges, disturbed earth and rubbish tips. Painful stings from the hairs on the leaves and stems may be relieved by rubbing the area with dock leaves.

Young shoots steamed and served with butter and pepper make a delicious vegetable, and can also be made into a nutritious soup.
