just before dawn
Salvia guaranitica being visited by a really pretty, really active hawkmoth, maybe the genus Macroglossum. Such fabulous insects! They find their way around in the pre-dawn darkness, visiting the flowers repeatedly and eagerly. They make a soft, but discernable buzz, and they seem to ignore me. I've put my hand down there and they will sort of rub up against it. Furry. It is so cool. Later, as the sun comes up, the hummingbirds, real busybodies, show up, and chase away the hawkmoths.
