Salty at Pickledish Pond
Labor Day, 2012
On Labor Day four years ago, I picked up Salty - then a five-month-old puppy - at his foster home in Hopkinton, NH and took him home to live with me and his "sister" Gracie. Twenty-one months ago Salty was diagnosed with an aggressive lymphoma. He not only survived; he thrived. While on chemotherapy he was active and vigorous - even completing climbing the 48 New Hampshire peaks over 4,000 feet.
Now - quite suddenly - Salty has developed a brain tumor. He was in extremis a few days before this picture; but has since been taking prednisone which has eased the pressure around the tumor, giving him a temporary window of time to feel good and enjoy life.
