1959 Ferrari 250 GT Long Wheel Base Aluminium Spyder
Auctioned by Coys. This car was commissioned in 1995 by Ferrari collector Bob Pond with the brief for a perfect recreation indistinguishable from a Long Wheel Base California Spyder except for the chassis number.
Due to his original California Spyder having such a low mileage he commissioned the creation of this car so he could enjoy using his dream Ferrari without adding miles to his original car.
Built by world renowned Ferrari coach builder Giovanni Gordenengo this car is striking from every angle. His recreations are so exact a GTO he made was sold as an original in 1990 for the price of an original, approximately £7,000,000.
The vehicle is based upon a 1950 250 Pininfarina coupe chassis which is virtually identical to a long wheel base chassis and certainly the closest to a California Spyder. The engine is a 128F V12 3 litre unit as fitted to the California Spyder and is equipped with all the correct dials and instruments. The body is crafted from aluminium and finished in blue with a biscuit interior. The car has only covered 1,355 miles and as you would expect is in stunning condition. A V5 registration document, confirmation letter from Ferrari confirming chassis number and date of manufacture and an MoT certificate valid until November 2009 are supplied with the car.
In recent years the car has been looked after by Greig Jones a world renowned Ferrari restorer often showing at Pebble Beach and a senior concours judge. The vendor informs us he has previously inspected the car and gave it a glowing report.
A stunning car all round, 1445GT offers the performance, looks and style of a California Spyder at a fraction of the cost.
