Panning for gold at Batavia River, ca. 1931

Creator: Unidentified

Location: Batavia River, Queensland

Description: 'Banjoing the fines'. Some 'fines' are placed in the box and water thrown in, the water carrying off the lighter stuff. The residue is then washed in a dish. This method is employed on nearly all the cliams on Batavia, being easy on the water supply.
