A Walk for Education
The Wayne State chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) hosted “A Walk for Education” on Nov. 3 at Total Life Christian Ministries in Detroit. The event, attended by 30 children of all ages and their parents, provided information about attending college and exposed the young students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities, such as building a bridge out of gum drops. A panel of students from various Michigan universities answered questions about college and representatives from the Wayne State chapters of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) were also present to discuss educational engineering opportunities. Former Congressman Hansen Clarke attended the event and spoke to the young students about the importance of education.
