EDWARDIAN REMEMBRANCE PIN ... ca. 1905
Approximately the size of a fifty cent piece, these small, framed celluloid button pins are usually thought to be momento mori, or a type of mourning jewelry worn by the loved ones of the deceased. However, I own two others, one containing a portrait of a great uncle as a boy and the other that of an aunt as a baby... and both of these people lived well into their eighties ... so not always are they a sad reminder of loss and sorrow. I choose to imagine this one a precious keepsake some doting grandmama once wore close to her heart.
