Meet the common folk
Tsar Ivan the Terrible (left) and his oprichnik secret police boys crossing the bridge over river Moscow from the Kremlin's side. In the middle of the 16th century Ivan created the first security organization in Russia and brought state terror to a new standard. Both high society and the poor were targeted - two citizens seen on far right, in complete awe.
Painting by Mikhail Avilov (1914).
