Kuaka - bar-tailed godwit - Limosa lapponica

Most godwit that come to New Zealand for our spring/summer after breeding in the Arctic circle, return home to breed when the NZ autumn comes around, completing the longest over-ocean migration of any land bird in the world. But each year a few juvenile birds stay on, wintering over in NZ to return to the Arctic the following season as adults. These pictures are of a flock of wintering over birds.
