Savannah Sparrow

I came across a flock of these birds today at Fort Rodd Hill. They were very hard to get close to as they kept flying whenever I got near.

Savannah Sparrows are common to the Victoria area from April to November. They have a length of 5 1/2 - 6 inches (14-15cm) and a wingspan of 6 3/4 inches (17cm). They forage on the ground, mostly for insects: in summer they also eat seeds: in winter berries and fruit when available; also small snails and crustaceans.
